"Three In One Out" During Peak Hours, Baoshan Road Reversible Lane Begins Construction!

In order to improve traffic congestion on Baoshan Road during peak hours, increase the capacity of the road to and from the Science Park, and the road's quality, Hsinchu City Government will begin the "Baoshan Road Reversible Lane Construction Project", the construction ceremony was held on April 13; Mayor Lin Chih-chien stated during the ceremony, Baoshan Road has a large flow of traffic during peak hours, through the construction of a reversible lane, widening and re-pavement, commuters can head to and from the Science Park with a more comfortable, speedier and safer journey.
 
"Baoshan Road Reversible Lane Construction Project" is estimated to complete by the end of June and open in July; during the peak hours of 7-9am, Baoshan Road's 4 lane will be turned from 2 each way into 3 in 1 out, 3 into the Science Park and 1 out, increasing 50% road capacity and a 1.5 time dispersion rate, significantly reducing travel time and easing congestion; if calculating using the morning peak of around 3505 vehicles, a 50,000 minute saving in time efficiency could be seen.
 
Mayor Lin stated, as many as 3505 vehicles pass by Baoshan Road between the City and the Science Park during peak hours, significantly over the capacity of the road; the reversible lane project will cost $28.5 Million, with the installation of a reversible lane gateway on Baoshan Road Lane 200, laneway signal lighting, an expansion of the road width from Gaocui Road to Lane 452, traffic signal underground cabling, and a re-pavement of the roadway. The adjustment from "2 in 2 out" to "3 in 1 out" will allow the traffic to flow smoother, providing a safer journey to and from work for the public.
 
The Mayor pointed out, Hsinchu Science Park brings the production of nearly $1 Trillion for the country, taking up 6.8% of the GDP, providing a stable economy and employment for both Hsinchu City and Hsinchu County. The City Government has solved traffic problems which have been around for 20 – 30 years in the recent 2 years, including Daxue Road Lane 51 and Gaofeng Road widening, Guangfu Road traffic signal adjustments, allowing the public to find their journey to and from work smoother. He especially thanks the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau, Tsing Hua University, and the residents for assisting with the constructions.
 
Science Park Bureau Director-General Wayne Wang stated, thanks to the City Government's efforts toward the improvements of the environment in the Science Park, improving the traffic surrounding it, he hopes the "Baoshan Road Reversible Lane Construction Project" can improve the traffic issue to and from the park and save commuting time. He also thanks the surrounding residents for their contribution, hoping through the park's creativity power, assist in the development of the nearby area, creating a win-win situation.

The Department of Transportation stated, the section of Baoshan Road between Lane 200 to 452 currently is a 2 way 4 lane road, with up and down hill sections, turns, old pavements and cabling which is untidy; the project is separated into three field of works; field one is to install a reversible lane gateway, 16 laneway signaling, information signage 3 sets, 7 sets of surveillance cameras, and 8 sets of E-TAG recognition systems between Baoshan Road Lane 200 and Gaocui Road; field two is to remove laneway islands, plantation, and open up the road into 4 lanes between Gaocui Road to Baoshan Road Lane 452; lastly, the re-pavement , underground pipeline and cabling will be applied to the entire section of the project, providing the road users with a comfortable and bright journey.
 
Prior to the application of the project, related supporting measures were adjusted with the local neighborhoods, future adjustments will also be carried out with the Science Park Bureau and the nearby communities, hoping through the three sides working together, create a better living area and a win-win situation.
