Hsinchu City Government coordinated with the Ministry of Economic Affairs in "Smart Electricity Saving Project" delivered great results, receiving 2016 Ministry of Economic Affairs' "Summer, Power Saver" city county competition first place in the division, through the evaluation of the ministry, the city saved an average of 2.78% in electricity in the retail and farming industry, saving an average of 13.20 million kWh, equivalent to 24 Qingqing grassland or three 18-peaks mountain's carbon absorption rate.
 
Since the Ministry of Economic Affairs launched the project in 2015, Hsinchu City came third place in the nation, residential division came first in the country; moreover, 2016 the government combined with the private sector, launching many education and assistance programs, again, receiving first place in the city county divisions.
 
Hsinchu City Government hosted the "2016 Summer Power Saving Division Champion Sharing Press Conference" this morning (14), inviting officials, retail, and residential representatives to share and witness the results of power saving.
 
Mayor Lin Chih-chien stated, the average temperature last year was higher than usual, under this circumstance it makes power saving even more difficult, the City Government still received first place in the division, he gave affirmation to the efforts the Hsinchu City industries and the public.
 
The Hsinchu City Environmental Protection Bureau stated, Hsinchu City trained power saving volunteers, community provided buildings power reduction counselling, launched green rooftops and ecology "greening" projects which received affirmation from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, furthermore, the City Government also launched a project targeting lowering the building exterior temperatures to reduce air conditioning usage, visiting and educating 158 energy consumption locations and prevent air conditioning leakage, changing 23736 traditional street lighting bulbs into LED, saving 10.07 million kWh, with a power saving efficiency of 65%
 
Far Eastern Big City Mall Hsinchu Branch was the highest retail power saver last year, property manager Liao Mao shared the experiences, through BA system setting lighting on and off, also exchanging parking lot and public spaces emergency exit lighting, creates a 10% saving in electricity.
 
Hsinchu City Bank Union commissioner Yo Guoyu stated, changing LED lighting has limited effects, changing the air conditioning into Inverter Air Conditioners, maximizing the efficiency can produce an energy reduction rate of 30-40%.
 
Environmental Protection Bureau director stated, the bureau this year is still focusing on public buildings, residential and retail sectors, with full efforts in putting in powers saving advisory, assistance, management, and education four aspects. In residential, providing the households a deeper understanding of household energy consumption, the City will continue to provide "Smart Residential Energy Health Check and Improvement Demonstration" free services, changing the traditional way of sending professionals to the household to provide analysis creating convenience and efficiency, through a cloud-based system the users can analyze their habits, providing a change and better management solution.
 
Deputy Mayor Shen Hui-hong stated, Hsinchu City houses the science park, department stores and many schools, her original thoughts on power saving would be difficult, a mission impossible; the results returned with a 2.78% average saving, which were great. Shen also stated, air conditioning and electrical heaters can be a focus in the future for the push in electrical power saving, hoping this year energy saving can reach a target of 1.5% throughout the whole year.
