University of Cincinnati Delegation Visits Hsinchu City Government; Mayor Kao Hung-An: Deepening International Industry-Government-Academia Cooperation to Connect Young Talent with the Global Stage
A delegation from the University of Cincinnati visited the Hsinchu City Government yesterday for an official meeting. Mayor Kao Hung-An led the heads of City Government departments in warmly receiving the delegation, while John Weidner, the Interim Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Cincinnati, also extended special greetings on behalf of the university from across the ocean. During the meeting, the two sides held highly professional and in-depth discussions on key topics including deeper educational cooperation, forward-looking industrial research, comprehensive talent development, and international youth exchanges. Through stronger collaboration between Taiwan and the United States in industry and academia, both sides look forward to bringing greater international competitiveness to Hsinchu City.
Mayor Kao said the “Data Integration and Smart Governance Platform (DAP)” concept currently being promoted by the City Government is an important piece of infrastructure built by integrating data, sensors, IoT, and smart analytics tools. She noted that the core of a smart city lies in establishing a complete data infrastructure. By collecting information through sensing devices and IoT systems and then using analytical tools to gain insight into residents’ needs, the city can provide more precise and efficient public services. These concepts and approaches, she said, are closely connected to the research and learning experiences she gained during her time at the University of Cincinnati.
Mayor Kao also noted that, during the exchange, the city learned that the University of Cincinnati has received research funding support from the United States National Science Foundation and will promote more research projects in cooperation with Taiwanese companies and schools in the future. Hsinchu City is home to a complete technology industry cluster, strong academic and research capacity, and abundant innovative talent. Together with the University of Cincinnati, the city has great potential for cooperation in advanced technology, industry-academia collaboration, and forward-looking research. Looking ahead, the Hsinchu City Government will continue to help connect local enterprises, universities, and research institutions for exchange and collaboration, deepening international academic and industrial ties while further expanding the city’s diplomatic and international cooperation achievements.
