Tzu Chi Marks Its 60th Anniversary with Buddha's Birthday Ceremony! Mayor Kao Hung-An Prays for World Peace and Social Harmony
The second Sunday of May each year marks Buddha Day, Mother’s Day, and Global Tzu Chi Day. The Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation held its “60th Anniversary Tzu Chi Buddha Bathing Ceremony” today, with ceremonies taking place simultaneously across Taiwan. Through the solemn ritual, participants expressed gratitude for the Buddha propagating the True Dharma and honored the spirit of serving the world with compassion. In the Hsinchu area, the Buddha Bathing Ceremony began early this morning in a dignified atmosphere at Tzu Chi Hsinchu Jing Si Hall. Hsinchu City Mayor Kao Hung-An was invited to attend and joined a live connection with the main venue in Hualien. Together with participants on site, she chanted sutras, paid homage to the Buddha, and offered sincere prayers, joining in a collective wish for peace and stability across the nation, harmony in society, and a year free from disasters.
Mayor Kao expressed her gratitude to Tzu Chi for upholding the spirit of compassion and service, and for its long-standing dedication to public welfare. She noted that whenever natural disasters or emergencies occur, Tzu Chi is always quick to extend a helping hand, offering hot meals, supplies, and practical support that warm people’s hearts. Its efforts have helped countless disaster survivors rebuild their lives, while making “Great Love” a shared language that transcends national borders and fully demonstrates the most precious kindness and care in humanity. Bathing the Buddha is also a meaningful moment to cleanse the heart, calm the mind, and reflect inwardly. By joining Tzu Chi volunteers in prayer at today’s Buddha Day event, Mayor Kao prayed for a world free from war, peace and prosperity for the nation, and happiness for every family in Hsinchu.
